On December 11, 2025, Thomas Diener was called home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, following a tragic traffic accident in Indiana, where the truck he was traveling in was struck by a semi. His passing has left a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues, and the many communities he served.

Life of Service, Music, and Unwavering Compassion

Thomas was a remarkable young man whose life was defined by service, curiosity, and kindness. From an early age, he demonstrated an extraordinary ability to learn and master whatever captured his interest. An avid reader with a sharp intellect, Thomas was self-taught in music, playing guitar, keyboards, and most notably drums, which became his first true passion at the age of five. As a teenager, he developed a fascination with pipe organs, earning opportunities to play through the encouragement of his parish music director. His commitment to his faith was evident as he served as an usher at his parish from a young age.

At just 10 years old, Thomas discovered an unusual yet lifelong interest in tornado sirens, becoming deeply knowledgeable on the subject and amassing an impressive collection over the years. His passion eventually evolved into a profession when he co-founded Sheboygan Warning Systems, a company that serviced and installed tornado sirens throughout the Midwest.

Thomas’s dedication to helping others was most evident through his fire service career. At 16, he joined the Town of Sheboygan Fire Department as a cadet, eventually leading the cadet program and achieving the rank of Lieutenant. While still in high school, he attended MATC at night, earning his EMT license at 18 and later his Paramedic/Firefighter degree at 21. He was proudly hired by the Oshkosh Fire Department, becoming the second-youngest firefighter ever employed by the department. When asked about his life’s purpose, Thomas simply said, “I want to help people.”

In his junior year of high school, Thomas met Elise, the love of his life and his greatest supporter. He cherished making her laugh and was known for his infectious sense of humor and radiant smile. Outside of work, Thomas nurtured diverse interests, including growing carnivorous plants, cultivating hot peppers for homemade salsa, and composing music—often playing alongside his brother, Andrew. Whatever Thomas pursued, he approached it with unmatched passion and dedication.

Thomas is survived by his parents Gary and Eileen Diener, his brother Andrew, his beloved Elise, maternal grandmother Dolores Ruppel, paternal grandfather Donald Diener, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Gerald Ruppel and step-grandmother Kim Diener.

Family and friends may gather at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2136 N. 21st Street, Sheboygan, on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Fr. Phil Reifenberg. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Thomas’s name.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Oshkosh Fire Department, Town of Sheboygan Fire Department, Plymouth Fire Department, the surrounding Marshall County Indiana fire departments, law enforcement agencies, and all who ensured Thomas was escorted home with honor and dignity.
