Teen Killed After Pickup Is Sideswiped by Big Rig on Manning Avenue in Fresno County

A 19-year-old man was killed Monday evening after a violent collision involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck on Manning Avenue in Fresno County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities identified the victim as Mattix Salmon, a resident of Kingsburg. Investigators said Salmon was driving westbound in a Chevrolet Silverado just after 6:30 p.m. on December 22 when a semi-truck traveling in the opposite direction veered into the westbound lane near Riverside Avenue. The big rig sideswiped Salmon’s pickup, forcing it off the roadway.

The impact caused the Silverado to roll over multiple times before coming to rest on its roof. Salmon suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials confirmed.

The semi-truck was driven by Marlon Tavarez of San Joaquin, who was not injured in the crash. Authorities said Tavarez remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. Officials also confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the collision.

Friends and family described Salmon as a beloved son, brother, and friend whose life was tragically cut short. Community members expressed shock and heartbreak following the fatal crash, offering condolences and support to the grieving family.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. No additional details have been released at this time.
