Shacoby Kenny Boston, Massachusetts Obituary Update: Shacoby Kenny Named as Prisoner Fatally Assaulted at South Bay Correctional Institution
Authorities have named Shacoby Kenny, a 32-year-old from Boston, as the inmate who passed away on Sunday evening at the Suffolk County House of Correction, often called South Bay. The Boston Police Department and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office have initiated inquiries into the situation surrounding his death.
As per an official announcement, staff in charge of custody observed that on March 4, Kenny started exhibiting erratic behavior in his housing area and reportedly attacked multiple officers physically. Officials mentioned that Kenny continued to act unpredictably, running throughout the unit and trying to evade officers prior to being restrained.
After being taken into custody, Kenny was reported to be unresponsive, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Immediate emergency medical attention was provided by personnel on site, and he was subsequently transported to a local hospital by Boston EMS, where he ultimately passed away.
While the Sheriff’s Office attributed the incident to Kenny's behavior and an altercation with officers, other inmates have alleged that correctional officers repeatedly struck Kenny before he became unresponsive. These claims remain unverified and are included in the ongoing investigation.
Kenny had been incarcerated at the Suffolk County Jail and House of Correction since February 2025. His active charges included assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery on an individual over the age of 65, and assault with a dangerous weapon. Records indicate he also spent time at Bridgewater State Hospital in July.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office has acknowledged the incident, and both internal and external investigations are underway to establish what transpired within the facility.
No further details have been disclosed by officials, and no staff members have been publicly identified in relation to the case. The Sheriff’s Office noted that additional information will be made available once the review is finalized.
