 The community of Monterey is grieving the premature death of Seth Pollack, who served as the long-time director of the Service Learning Institute at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB). He died on the morning of Friday, December 5, while biking in Pebble Beach.

The unexpected loss of Seth has resulted in profound sorrow among his family, friends, colleagues, and members of the community. He was greatly respected for his visionary approach, kindness, and commitment to fostering the development of future civic-minded individuals.

For a quarter of a century, Seth had a significant influence at CSUMB, contributing to the establishment of a culture centered around service, mentorship, and impactful community involvement throughout the Monterey Bay area.

With his leadership, the Service Learning Institute became an essential part of the university, creating collaborations among students, faculty, and local organizations, such as the Monterey Peace and Justice Center.
