York College is profoundly saddened to inform the community of the death of Scott Guise, the Director of Athletic Communications, who devoted three decades to Spartan athletics.

Cherished Spartan and Director of Athletic Communications

Scott joined the College in 1995 and quickly became a fundamental part of the York College Athletics family, influencing how the accomplishments of student-athletes, trainers, and teams were honored and remembered.

His influence reached well beyond mere numbers and game summaries; he served as a mentor, a companion, and a guiding force for all with whom he collaborated. Over his career, Scott exhibited an unwavering dedication to ensuring that every athlete and team earned the acknowledgment they rightfully deserved.

From memorable events like the men’s basketball team's journey to the Final Four in 2005 to quiet achievements and significant moments that often went unrecognized, Scott documented everything with accuracy, enthusiasm, and grace.

Many student-athletes recall how meaningful it was when Scott personally contacted them after a challenging game or an exceptional performance, illustrating that his support was unwavering, sincere, and heartfelt.

“Scott’s relationship with all aspects of Spartan life—particularly our athletes and personnel—went much further than his professional duties,” remarked Assistant Dean for Athletics and Recreation Paul Saikia.

“He didn’t merely narrate our story; he was an integral part of it. The York College Athletics community felt like a family, and Scott will forever occupy a unique position within it.” Despite facing significant health issues in recent years, Scott consistently made his presence felt at athletic events, whether he was operating a camera, wearing a headset, or working on his laptop while undergoing treatment.

His commitment never faltered, leading him to receive the 2025 Middle Atlantic Conference Giant Steps Award, which recognizes individuals who motivate others through resilience and dedication.

“Scott’s fortitude and resolve in confronting his health challenges while continuing to serve the College were extraordinary,” stated Assistant Director Derek Behrenshausen.

Peers, coaches, and alumni have fond memories of Scott not just for his professional accomplishments but also for his compassion, integrity, and willingness to help others. Former Women’s Basketball Coach Betsy Witman remarked, “Scott’s smile was contagious, and his bravery and strength were unparalleled.

He demonstrated a deep passion for all YCP sports initiatives and celebrated their achievements with everyone who supported the Spartans. I will truly miss my friend and colleague of 28 years.”

York College’s Director of Communications Julie Loeper shared, “He established a benchmark that the rest of us aspired to meet. Scott faced every obstacle with courage, never chasing attention or accolades. We are better for having worked alongside him.”

Scott is survived by his family, coworkers, and numerous student-athletes whose lives he significantly influenced. His legacy is assessed not only through the thousands of games, narratives, and figures he chronicled but also through the unwavering kindness, leadership, and support he contributed to every encounter.
