A serene Monday night turned into a tragedy when a woman was fatally wounded with a knife inside a Barnes & Noble bookstore in Palm Beach Gardens, as reported by law enforcement officials. According to the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department, the stabbing took place around 7:53 p.m. on December 22 at the bookstore situated at 11380 Legacy Avenue. Officers were sent to the location after receiving reports about a stabbing occurring within the premises. Upon their arrival, they discovered a woman with serious stab injuries and promptly initiated lifesaving efforts.

The victim was later named as 65-year-old Rita B. Loncharich. She was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition by Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue. Despite the dedication of first responders and medical personnel, Loncharich succumbed to her wounds. Police confirmed her passing later that evening and informed her family.

Individuals who were present in the store reported to investigators that the suspect stabbed Loncharich and then escaped the scene on foot.
