Riley Cochrane Sandwich, MA Vehicle Collision: Three-Year-Old Child Passed Away in East Sandwich, MA Accident

Authorities have identified the child who passed away on Sunday, December 7, after being hit by a car in East Sandwich as three-year-old Riley Cochrane, according to a joint announcement from Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois and Sandwich Police Chief Jason Keene.

Emergency personnel received a call around 3:30 p.m. regarding a report of a pedestrian being struck on Service Road, situated between Quaker Meetinghouse Road and Chase Road. Upon arrival, responders located the injured child and swiftly transported Riley to a local hospital, where she subsequently died.

The two-lane Service Road, which runs parallel to Route 6, was partially blocked off while investigators assessed the area.

Officials stated that the driver involved remained at the scene and has been completely cooperative with the authorities. No charges have been filed to date, and law enforcement reiterated that the investigation is still in progress.

In a public statement, the District Attorney's office extended their sympathies: “Our agencies' thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the child during this inconceivable time.”

Given the delicate nature of the case and the young age of the child, no additional information was released on that Sunday.

The incident has profoundly impacted the Sandwich community, and officials indicate that more details will be shared as the investigation progresses when appropriate.
