A Porter, Texas, father used a location-sharing app on his teenage daughter’s phone to help rescue her from an alleged kidnapper on Christmas Day, leading to the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect, authorities confirmed.

Porter Father Tracks Phone to Rescue Teen

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. in the 4000 block of Conner Mills after the family’s 15-year-old daughter failed to return home from walking her dog. When the girl did not come back as expected, her parents grew increasingly concerned.

Using a phone tracking app, the father was able to locate his daughter’s phone signal in a secluded, partially wooded area in Harris County, nearly two miles from their home. Upon arriving at the location, he found his daughter inside a maroon pickup truck with Giovanni Rosales Espinoza, a Porter resident. Authorities said Espinoza was partially nude inside the vehicle, along with the girl and her dog.

The father immediately helped his daughter escape and contacted law enforcement. Deputies responded quickly and arrested Espinoza without incident at the scene.

Investigators later determined that Espinoza had allegedly threatened the girl with a knife and abducted her from her street. Witnesses provided descriptions of the suspect and his vehicle, which helped authorities confirm details of the crime. Espinoza now faces charges of aggravated kidnapping and indecency with a child by sexual conduct. Jail records show no bond has been set.

Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle condemned the act in a social media statement, saying, “Christmas is a day meant for joy, but this man chose to shatter that joy by targeting a child.” He praised deputies and detectives for their swift response in apprehending what he described as a dangerous predator.

The family told reporters they did not know the suspect, and confirmed their daughter is now safely home and recovering after the traumatic ordeal.
