Marvin Morales Obituary Announcement: Ex-Sacramento County Deputy Passes Away in Police-Involved Incident Following the Fatal Stabbing of His 11-Year-Old Son

A tragic event unfolded on a Tuesday morning involving several counties in Northern California, concluding with the death of a suspect, who was sought after in connection to the lethal stabbing of his 11-year-old son. Officials reported that he was shot by police and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

Child Found Stabbed in Elk Grove Home

The situation began approximately at 8 a.m., when the Elk Grove Police Department received a call from a woman who expressed concern for the well-being of her two children who were left with their father at their residence. Officers hurried to the location on Ferrell Way, close to the intersections of Whitelock Parkway and Bruceville Road.

Upon entering the property, officers found an 11-year-old boy with multiple stab wounds. He was quickly taken to a hospital but unfortunately passed away due to his injuries. A second child, aged 6, was located unharmed. The children's father, identified as 40-year-old Marvin Morales, had already absconded from the location.

Authorities later revealed that Morales had previously worked as a deputy for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department and had faced scrutiny for dishonest statements regarding a fentanyl overdose incident during an internal review in 2023.

Pursuit Along Interstate 5

Law enforcement swiftly tracked down Morales while he was driving on Interstate 5 near Pocket Road. A pursuit began, continuing south into San Joaquin County.

The chase concluded on I-5, south of Highway 12, where numerous agencies, including the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Elk Grove Police, and California Highway Patrol, gathered around the vehicle.

Officer-Involved Shooting

As stated by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, at least one deputy discharged their weapon during the standoff. Elk Grove police corroborated that one of their officers was also part of the situation. The sheriff’s office communicated that the “suspect is down,” and Morales was then transported to a hospital for medical care.

Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a representative from the sheriff’s office, later reported that Morales passed away at the hospital as a result of his injuries. Fortunately, no officers or deputies sustained serious injuries during the encounter.

Freeway Closure and Ongoing Investigation

The shooting triggered a significant response from law enforcement and resulted in the closure of a considerable portion of Interstate 5. Caltrans announced that southbound I-5 was blocked at the Highway 12 junction in San Joaquin County due to the ongoing investigation.

CHP officers provided traffic management, while Elk Grove police took the lead in the investigatory process regarding the incident. The circumstances surrounding the shooting will undergo review according to the standard protocols for officer-involved occurrences.

A Developing Story

Officials have yet to disclose further information about the underlying motive for the stabbing or the sequence of events leading to the pursuit. Additional details are anticipated as detectives continue to analyze the scene and collect evidence.

This is an evolving story that will be revised as fresh information is made available.
