Deputies report that the individual implicated in a homicide in Berea was discovered deceased in a vehicle along I-75 in Whitley County, following an effort to apprehend him on Sunday.
According to the Madison County Coroner, 77-year-old Margie Berry was found lifeless in her residence located on Leslie Drive in Berea on Saturday evening. The determination of her cause of death is still pending.
As stated by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Office, the identified suspect is Kevin Berry.
The Berea Police Department has verified that Berry is the son of Margie.
Brandon White, the Assistant Chief of Police in Williamsburg, indicated that at approximately 10 a.m. on Sunday, the Kentucky State Police requested local officers to monitor a vehicle connected to the Berea murder case. The troopers reported it was making its way from Tennessee into Kentucky.
White mentioned that he noticed the vehicle traveling northbound on I-75 in Williamsburg and proceeded to follow it. The vehicle began to veer towards the shoulder, prompting White to activate his lights and sirens.
According to White, the vehicle then advanced into a grassy section before colliding with a rock wall, where it ultimately came to halt.
White reported that he issued multiple commands to the driver, but there was no reaction, and he observed no movement from within the vehicle.
Eventually, law enforcement officials utilized a drone to inspect the interior of the car. That was when they concluded it was safe to approach the vehicle.
