M42 Vehicle Collision: Identity of Deceased Not Revealed, Law Enforcement Response on M42

Traffic halted completely on the M42 on Friday night after law enforcement dealt with a severe situation occurring between Junctions 1 and 2. Emergency responders arrived following reports of a person ending their own life on the road.

The highway was entirely shut down in both directions from the M5 interchange to Junction 2 as police, medical teams, and traffic officials collaborated to address the circumstance. Drivers who were already on the motorway were advised to stay in their cars and wait for instructions from the emergency services.

Shortly after 6:40 p.m., officials announced that the backed-up vehicles had been released in both directions; however, the highway remained closed as investigations were ongoing.

National Highways issued various warnings requesting that motorists steer clear of the location, indicating:

“The M42 is CLOSED in both directions between the M5 and J2 due to a police matter.”

“Avoid M42 Southbound between J1 & J2. Traffic at a standstill.”

The situation caused significant delays, especially near the Bournville area, with traffic buildup extending for several miles.

Authorities have not yet disclosed additional details about the person involved, but the motorway is anticipated to reopen once all emergency response and recovery efforts have been finished.
