Liam Gleason Incident; Cherished Siena Lacrosse Coach Liam Gleason Passes Away Due to Injuries Received in Tragic Accident

 The Siena University community and the larger lacrosse fraternity are grieving the tragic loss of Liam Gleason, the cherished head coach of the men's lacrosse team, who passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the age of 41. 

He died due to a traumatic brain injury resulting from a serious fall at his home in Halfmoon, New York, on the prior Sunday, November 30. His unexpected passing has left teammates, alumni, colleagues, and supporters in shock, all of whom admired his guidance, integrity, and commitment to student-athletes.

As per initial reports, Gleason fell down the stairs in his home and incurred a critical head injury. Emergency responders arrived promptly and provided CPR on-site before taking him to Albany Medical Center. Despite extensive medical treatment, the injuries he sustained proved to be fatal. In an ultimate display of generosity, Gleason, a registered organ donor, was honored with a heartfelt “honor walk” at the hospital as he was taken into surgery to donate his organs. This act reflected the kindness and benevolence he exhibited throughout both his life and career.

Gleason was the head men's lacrosse coach at Siena for seven seasons, becoming a well-respected and admired individual both on the field and off. Under his guidance, the Saints achieved remarkable milestones, including clinching the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship in 2025 and making an appearance in the NCAA tournament in that same year. His accomplishments and mentorship earned him the 2025 MAAC Coach of the Year distinction. Those who collaborated with him often referred to him as a mentor who inspired outstanding performance, fostered strong bonds, and infused positivity into every practice and match.

Prior to his tenure at Siena, Gleason built an outstanding reputation at the University at Albany. As a distinguished college player and later as the associate head coach, he played a crucial role in leading the Great Danes to six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. His deep comprehension of the sport, paired with his talent for motivating players, established him as one of the most esteemed coaching figures in collegiate lacrosse.

Aside from his coaching accomplishments, Gleason’s foremost commitment was to his family. He is survived by his wife, Jaclyn, and their three young children: daughter Kennedy and sons Penn and Tate. The news of his death has sparked a massive wave of support from both the Siena and UAlbany communities, as well as from teams, alumni, and lacrosse organizations nationwide. A GoFundMe campaign initiated to assist the Gleason family has rapidly amassed hundreds of thousands of dollars, reflecting the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him.
