Laniya Joyce White and Bruce A. Mason Cahokia Heights, III Gunfire Incident: Two Fatally Shot in Cahokia Heights, Inquiry Continues
Authorities are looking into a double homicide in Cahokia Heights after two individuals were discovered deceased from gunshot injuries in different homes.
The event started when officers went to a location following a report about gunfire at a residence, where they found 67-year-old Bruce A. Mason from Maryville, Illinois, with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Mason was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
During the ongoing inquiry, the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis secured a search warrant for a nearby house. In that location, detectives located 44-year-old Laniya Joyce White from East St. Louis with visible gunshot wounds. She was confirmed dead at the site.
Officials have indicated that both fatalities are thought to be linked and are not random occurrences, and there is no existing danger to the community. Nonetheless, the person believed to have perpetrated the shootings has not been apprehended as of Sunday afternoon.
