Lake City Deadly Shooting: Active Shooter Incident, One Person Hurt, One Taken Into Custody Near Subway in Lake City

 Authorities are looking into a shooting that took place in Lake City on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in one person being hurt and the prompt apprehension of a suspect. This event happened around 1:30 p.m. close to the Subway restaurant, situated in the 1300 block of North Lakeshore Drive, alongside U.S. Highway 63.


Emergency services from Lake City Police, Lake City Ambulance, and the Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office responded quickly after being informed about gunshots. Lake City Police Captain Bill Weist stated that the person affected was wounded outside the restaurant and then sought assistance inside the Subway. Medical staff offered aid at the location before the individual was moved for additional care. No updates on the victim's condition are available.

Captain Weist verified that police managed to find and apprehend the suspect not long after the shooting took place. The suspect is currently in custody, and officials assured that the public is not facing any ongoing danger.

The shooting triggered a response from multiple agencies, with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) from Rochester becoming involved in the investigation. Agents from the BCA are helping with gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and documenting the scene as authorities aim to uncover the events that led to the shooting.

No names of the suspect or the victim have been disclosed, and there is currently no information about a potential motive. The Subway remained temporarily closed while investigators conducted their examination of the site.

Local leaders commended the swift action of first responders and law enforcement, noting that the prompt management of the situation played a crucial role in assuring safety along one of the busiest routes in Lake City.
