Law enforcement reported that officers were sent to the seventh level of the Midtown retail outlet at around 3:15 p.m. after receiving alerts about an ongoing attack. Upon their arrival, they discovered a 38-year-old woman from California with several stab wounds on her back and a cut on her right arm. The victim, who was shopping alongside her husband at the moment, was assaulted in a bathroom on the seventh floor in what officials characterized as a random event.

The injured individual was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where her condition was stabilized.

Officials stated that Aherne is facing numerous charges, including attempted murder, weapon-related assault, general assault, and illegal possession of a weapon. Investigators continue to look into the details surrounding the event.

In a public statement, a representative from Macy’s remarked: “We are profoundly saddened by the occurrence that happened today as ensuring the safety of our customers and employees is our highest priority. We respectfully direct any additional inquiries to the local law enforcement.”
