A 24-year-old individual named Jonathan Isaac Crabtree is currently in police custody after reportedly stabbing a victim more than thirty times and absconding with a police cruiser early Thursday morning. The victim, whose name remains undisclosed, is reportedly in a critical state, as stated by Middletown law enforcement.

The incident began around 3:50 a.m. Thursday, when the Middletown Police Department and the Middletown Fire Division responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence situated on the 4400 block of Bonita Drive.

The Stabbing Incident

Upon their arrival at the location, the officers discovered the victim suffering from numerous stab wounds. The victim was swiftly transported to Atrium Medical Center, where their state was categorized as critical. Due to the grave nature of the injuries sustained, the victim was subsequently moved to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton for supplementary medical treatment.

Middletown authorities have identified the alleged assailant as Jonathan Crabtree, who fled the scene on foot shortly following the attack. A K9 unit from the Middletown Police Department was deployed to pursue Crabtree; however, the situation escalated when Crabtree managed to commandeer a locked police cruiser during the K9's chase.

The theft of the police vehicle took place while officers and the K9 unit were actively searching for Crabtree. Law enforcement reports indicate that Crabtree accessed the police car through an open window and drove away, leading to a “Be On the Look Out” (BOLO) alert being issued across the vicinity.

The stolen cruiser was later located in Independence, Kentucky, where local law enforcement had been informed. A local resident on Rusconi Drive in Independence noticed the vehicle and contacted the Kenton County Communications Center. Officers from both Independence and Kenton County swiftly responded, surrounding the stolen police cruiser, resulting in Crabtree's apprehension without any further incidents.

Crabtree’s Arrest and Charges

Crabtree was detained in Independence and initially faced charges of possessing stolen property exceeding $10,000. He was transferred to the Kenton County Detention Center where he awaits extradition back to Middletown.
