FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA — Authorities confirmed that two Rocky Mount residents died Friday in what is being investigated as an apparent murder-suicide. Deputies found the victims with fatal gunshot wounds inside a vehicle near the 1400 block of Patti Road.

James River Equipment Employee Tina Marie Brown Dies

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9 a.m. to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive person in a red Honda SUV. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 55-year-old James Randolph Smith and 41-year-old Tina Marie (Brown) Spencer, both local residents, deceased from gunshot wounds. The investigation remains ongoing pending confirmation from the Roanoke Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities have not released further information regarding a possible motive or the type of weapon used. The sheriff’s office described the incident as isolated and extended condolences to the families during the holiday season.
