It is with deep sorrow that we announce the saddening news of Henry Shore's death, a first-year student at LeTourneau University and an outstanding player on the men’s soccer team. Henry, pursuing a degree in Construction Management, passed away over the weekend, leaving his family, friends, teammates, and the entire community in mourning. Having been raised in Longview, Texas, Henry was an energetic and gifted young man whose commitment and enthusiasm created a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. As an emerging talent in college soccer, he received All-SCAC First Team honors and was recognized with All-Freshman status, finishing third in the SCAC with eight goals and fourth with a total of 18 points. In conference matches, he scored seven goals and collected 16 points, earning the title of SCAC Offensive Player of the Week on October 13 after netting four goals the week prior. Henry experienced an impressive streak where he garnered at least one point in five consecutive SCAC games, and he scored LeTourneau’s first hat trick since 2019 in a 3-1 victory against St. Thomas. His eight goals were the highest for a first-year YellowJacket since 2005.

The attributes that Henry displayed on the soccer field were mirrored by his character off the field. He was recognized for his humility, strong work ethic, and kindness, making him a beloved teammate, friend, and student. His enthusiasm for soccer, paired with his commitment to academics and the community, illustrated a young man whose influence reached far beyond sports.

LeTourneau University will conduct a service on campus through the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Spiritual Life, allowing the community to gather for prayer, remembrance, and to celebrate Henry’s life together. The university also encourages anyone affected by Henry’s death to seek support through the LeTourneau University Center for Counseling and other student resources.

Although Henry Shore's life was sadly short, it was filled with accomplishments, passion, and potential. He will be remembered as a talented athlete, committed student, and a bright presence in the lives of those around him. His legacy of hard work, excellence, and integrity will continue to motivate his teammates, peers, and all members of the LeTourneau community.
