Law enforcement is looking into a stabbing incident that took place on Monday morning close to the Safeway on 1st Street, resulting in a 52-year-old man sustaining a neck puncture wound after a dispute with a homeless person.
Emergency personnel rushed to the supermarket after they got calls about a commotion involving two males. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim alert and breathing, with an injury to his neck that was not deemed life-threatening. He received treatment at the location and was subsequently taken for additional medical assessment.
Officials reported that the clash started as a verbal disagreement between the two men before it turned violent. The suspect left the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement and medical teams and has not been found yet.
The Gilroy Police have opened a case and are in the process of identifying and tracking down the suspect. They are requesting anyone who may have seen the incident or possesses information to reach out to the police department.
