Bartow County, GA – Officials are looking into a fatal shooting involving law enforcement that resulted in the death of 39-year-old Dylan Burl Rice, who was shot by deputies from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office while they were executing a search warrant related to an investigation into a suspicious fire that led to the death of his mother.
The events took place on the night of December 1, 2025, at a home located on GA-20 Spur in Cartersville, turning an usually peaceful neighborhood into an active scene for law enforcement. Residents noted a significant police presence near a nearby school, initially believing the noises they heard were simply from common activities such as hunting or cleaning firearms. “There were numerous police vehicles close to the school,” stated resident Gayle Webster, who afterward heard two separate gunshots.
