 It is with deep sadness that the Northwest Indiana community shares the news of Dr. Nazal Obaid's passing, a treasured individual within the Northwest Indiana Islamic Center and a valued member of the Crown Point community.


His life was characterized by unwavering commitment to his beliefs, family, and helping others, leaving an enduring influence on everyone fortunate enough to know him. The Quran reminds us, “To Allah we belong and to Him is our return,” offering solace and contemplation during this challenging moment.

Dr. Obaid was a dedicated husband to Suad Obaid and a nurturing father to Lena (Dr. Kais Yehyawi), Reema (Stephen Ross), Kenan, and Omar (Stacy Obaid). He took great pride in his loved ones, and his affection also encompassed his grandchildren, who brought him immense happiness: Layth, Dalia, Jenna, and Jad, the children of Lena, as well as Adam and Yasmeen, the children of Reema.

His family remembers him as a patient, supportive, and loving individual, always eager to share his wisdom and lend assistance. He is survived by his siblings, Saleh and Khadija, who, along with the extended family, will honor his memory.

In addition to his family, Dr. Obaid’s impact on the community was significant and well-recognized. A respected and trusted figure at the Northwest Indiana Islamic Center, he invested his energy in nurturing community connections, promoting charitable initiatives, and embodying the principles of faith, compassion, and integrity.

He lived with a blend of intent and kindness, leaving a significant impression on the lives of those surrounding him.

Janazah Prayer Details: In shaa Allah, the Janazah prayer will take place on Tuesday, December 9, at the Northwest Indiana Islamic Center, located at 9803 Colorado St, Crown Point, IN, immediately after the Duhr prayer at 1 pm. The burial will occur at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens at 2 pm. Later that evening, the Obaid family will be available to receive condolences at the Islamic Center from 6 pm to 8 pm.
