DETROIT, MI — A heartwarming yet startling story out of Detroit has captured national attention. 16-year-old Peyton Peoples initially told police and her family that she found a newborn on her porch, but she has now admitted the truth: the baby, Paxton, is her own. Peyton gave birth alone at home on Thanksgiving, November 27, 2025.
According to interviews with FOX 2 Detroit, Peyton said she was unaware of her pregnancy until her water broke while she was home alone. She delivered Paxton in the bathroom after three pushes, then used TikTok videos to cut the umbilical cord and clean him. Fearful of burdening her single mother, Kira Peoples, who is raising four children after Peyton’s father was killed in a robbery seven months earlier, Peyton fabricated the story about finding the baby on the porch.
Initially, Kira Peoples believed the story and posted about the supposed abandonment on social media, asking in disbelief, "Why my porch?" Police grew suspicious after the 911 call and took Peyton to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan, where tests confirmed she was the baby’s mother. Peyton admitted the truth shortly after, easing further distress for her mother amid their financial challenges.
Kira Peoples described her grandson Paxton as “always a blessing” and shared that she will continue working midnights while Peyton returns to school. The story quickly gained community support, and a GoFundMe campaign launched to aid Peyton, Paxton, and the family has raised over $20,000 to provide essentials and stability for the young mother and her child.
Both Peyton and Paxton remain stable under medical care while Children’s Protective Services continues to review the case. The story highlights the resilience of a young family navigating unimaginable circumstances with courage and community support.
