With deep sadness and great sorrow, we pay tribute to the life and contributions of David E. Shannon, a 70-year-old individual whose life concluded unexpectedly and tragically on December 10, 2025. David lost his life at the site of a severe accident on US Route 62 close to Orient, Ohio—an event that irrevocably changed the lives of his friends and family, significantly affecting the Pickaway County community.
As stated by Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey, at 10:41 a.m., the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency call about a serious collision at the location 9976 US Route 62. This incident involved a direct crash between a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck. Upon arrival, deputies found a distressing and chaotic scene that would soon lead to heart-wrenching news no family desires to hear.
David was driving his 2023 red Dodge Ram, heading east when he attempted to overtake another vehicle. In that moment of tragedy, his truck struck head-on with a westbound 2023 white Kenworth semi-truck. The severity of the crash was devastating, triggering a sequence of events involving a third vehicle, leaving the road in ruins.
Even with the rapid response from the medics of Sterling Joint Ambulance District, David Shannon was declared dead at the scene. His loss is profound—one deeply felt by his family, friends, neighbors, and all those who had the opportunity to know him.
David was more than just a statistic in a report or a motorist on the road. He was a beloved person whose existence filled those around him with joy, laughter, and a sense of belonging. At the age of 70, he embodied a collection of memories, insights, and connections that represented his true essence well beyond this tragic occurrence. Whether identified as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, or member of the community, David impacted many lives with a remarkable blend of quiet strength and authenticity that remains unforgettable.
In the aftermath of this heartache, the community acknowledges the bravery and professionalism of all who reacted to the scene. Sheriff Hafey expressed his appreciation to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Tri-County Fire Department, Sterling Joint Ambulance District, Pickaway County Coroner’s Office, and the Ohio Department of Transportation for their work. Their commitment in challenging moments is a reflection of the dedication of first responders who serve with empathy day in and day out.
