Craig McEvoy Niddrie Car Incident: Detective Inspector Craig McEvoy tragically lost his life in a collision at Essendon Health Medical Centre, family and friends grieve.

A male pedestrian has lost his life, and a woman has sustained serious injuries following a vehicle collision with a medical facility in the north-western part of Melbourne.

Emergency responders arrived at the intersection of Keilor and Hoffmans roads in Niddrie around 9:20 am after a silver Alfa Romeo crashed into the Essendon Health Medical Centre.

Surveillance footage from a nearby establishment seems to indicate that the car narrowly missed approaching traffic before driving onto the sidewalk and speeding through the intersection.

Detective Inspector Craig McEvoy from the Major Collision Investigation Unit reported that the unidentified male pedestrian died at the accident site.

“We believe he was positioned directly in front of the medical facility, situated between the tram stop and the sign that appears in the video," he stated.

A woman in her early 50s from Roxburgh Park, who was visiting for an appointment at the clinic, was also struck by the car and was subsequently airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

“She is currently receiving medical care and is in a stable condition,” Inspector McEvoy reported.

The driver, a 63-year-old individual from Maribyrnong, incurred minor injuries. He was transported to a hospital and later questioned by authorities before being released while investigations continue.

Authorities believe that the vehicle was headed north on Hoffmans Road prior to crashing into the building. Inspector McEvoy mentioned that it is incredibly fortunate no staff members or additional patients were harmed, considering the car came to a halt approximately 30 meters inside the center.

The incident resulted in a significant portion of the glass façade collapsing.

Inspector McEvoy indicated that police will conduct a reconstruction of the scene to ascertain the sequence of events.

“At this point, we are exploring all potential scenarios, including whether there was a medical issue, mechanical malfunction, driver error, excessive speed, fatigue, or influence of drugs and alcohol," he remarked.
