Detroit, MI – The preliminary hearing for three individuals charged in the tragic drive-by shooting that resulted in the death of 6-year-old Rylee Love resumed today at Detroit’s 36th District Court, as the local community hopes for justice for the young boy struck by a stray bullet inside his home.
On December 3, 2025, Demontrel Wilson, 30, Deonate Cherry, 28, and Terrance Blue, 28, appeared in court for the second day of hearings following their first appearance the previous month. The three face serious allegations including plotting first-degree murder, committing first-degree murder, conspiring to fire a weapon from a vehicle resulting in death, and firing a weapon from a vehicle leading to death. Furthermore, Wilson and Blue are also accused of illegal possession of firearms.
The events occurred on the evening of July 27 when the Detroit police responded to gunfire reports near Anglin Street and Stender Avenue. Officials assert that the accused fired several shots from a moving car toward a crowd, with one bullet striking a nearby home located in the 17400 block of Anglin Street. Inside, young Rylee was in his bedroom and was tragically hit in the head. Although he was immediately taken to the hospital, he did not survive his injuries.
During emotionally charged testimony on the first day of the hearing, Rylee's mother, Tarhesa Love, recounted the horrifying moment she heard a loud noise and discovered her son was unresponsive. “I pick him up, and I scream his name. He doesn’t reply,” she shared, emphasizing the deep sorrow her family is enduring.
The suspects were arrested three weeks following the incident, and their case has attracted considerable public interest, highlighting persistent concerns regarding gun violence in the city. Today's session, which began at 1:30 p.m., is focused on whether there is enough evidence to move forward to trial, with the judge expected to make a ruling after hearing additional witness testimonies.
