Cortney and Brad Bartholomew have been charged with the act of removing a baby from the womb of Rebecca Park.

WEXFORD COUNTY, Mich. — Two family members of Rebecca Kay Park have been officially charged regarding her savage murder and the death of her unborn child.

As stated by prosecutors, Park’s natural mother, Cortney Bartholomew, along with her stepfather, Brad Bartholomew, purportedly enticed the 31-year-old to their residence before forcibly taking her away, driving her to a secluded wooded location, and executing a vicious assault that led to the fatalities of both Park and her child.

SUPPORT THE FAMILY, GOD BLESS YOU

Prosecutors described the offense as “evil personified,” revealing unsettling information during a court session on Tuesday in the 84th District Court of Wexford County.

The hearing that was planned for Monday was postponed by one day. Both accused individuals are currently being held without bail due to the serious nature of the allegations.

The courtroom was occupied by family, friends, and local residents seeking clarity after the month-long investigation. Many attendees were visibly distressed as Prosecuting Attorney Johanna Carey recounted the events that culminated in Park’s demise.

Carey explained that the Bartholomews took Park to their home, compelled her into a vehicle, and drove her far into the forest.

Once there, they stabbed her and made her lie on the ground while they forcibly removed her child from her womb, resulting in the deaths of both the mother and the infant.

“This crime is as horrific as it can be,” Carey informed the judge, requesting that neither defendant be granted bail. “I believe there should be no conditions under which Mr. Bartholomew should be released.”

Judge Corey Wiggins concurred, commanding that both Cortney and Brad Bartholomew be held without bond. He additionally barred any contact between the two while they remain in custody.

The judge remarked that Brad Bartholomew is a fourth-time habitual offender, which further supported the need for detention.
