 Authorities in Texas have confirmed the identity of a woman who lost her life in a tragic single-vehicle accident that occurred on Monday afternoon in Clay County. The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the incident took place at approximately 3 p.m. on a major thoroughfare in the region. This event has left family members mourning and has raised new worries regarding the use of seatbelts and safety on the roads.

As per DPS, the driver, a 59-year-old named Carol Jean Smith, was a local resident heading south at the moment of the incident. Investigators revealed that she did not keep her vehicle in the designated lane and swerved between lanes. In an attempt to regain control of the automobile, she overcompensated, leading the car to veer off the needed path. The vehicle subsequently went off the highway and came to a stop in a ditch by the roadside.

According to the troopers, the woman was not secured with a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Due to her being unrestrained, she was thrown from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. Authorities indicated that she was the sole occupant of the car, with no other vehicles involved in the incident.
