Blaxland Incident: Significant Hold-ups Throughout Blue Mountains Following Deadly Collision

Commuters traveling through the Blue Mountains are experiencing significant delays this morning following an incident where a car fell off a bridge at Blaxland and ended up upside down on the railway tracks, resulting in one fatality and considerable interruptions to both road and rail operations.

Train Services Halted

Train operations between Springwood and Penrith on the Blue Mountains Line have been halted, with NSW TrainLink stating that the suspension is due to a car obstructing the tracks at Blaxland. Emergency services and rail crews are on-site, and travelers are advised to postpone their trips or factor in additional time for their journeys.

Collision on Great Western Highway

The crash took place close to St Johns Road on the Great Western Highway at approximately 5:53 a.m. One of the two lanes heading west—lane 1—has been shut down as emergency responders act.

Authorities report that the vehicle veered off the road, fell from the bridge, and ended up resting on its roof on the tracks beneath. Law enforcement has confirmed that there is one confirmed fatality from the accident.

Significant Traffic Delays Anticipated

The closure of the lane and the stoppage of rail services have led to extensive delays for morning travelers. Motorists are cautioned to be prepared for sluggish traffic and possible congestion as the volume of vehicles increases along the corridor.

Investigation in Progress

Law enforcement is looking into the events that caused the car to leave the bridge. Recovery teams are currently attempting to retrieve the vehicle and evaluate any potential damage to the railway line to allow for the safe resumption of train services.
