Providence and the Brown University community are still reeling as officials persist in a thorough investigation into a fatal shooting on campus that resulted in two fatalities and several injuries. The unfortunate event, which took place amid a hectic exam period, has attracted widespread media coverage and has led to a significant multiagency law enforcement reaction.

Benjamin Erickson Providence, Rhode Island

As per various law enforcement officials informed about the ongoing inquiry, a person of interest has been apprehended in relation to the shooting incident. This individual has been named as Benjamin Erickson, a 24-year-old hailing from Wisconsin. Authorities emphasize that Erickson is merely a person of interest at this stage, and no official charges have been brought against him thus far.

Law enforcement representatives disclosed that Erickson was taken into custody during a morning raid at a hotel in Coventry, Rhode Island, situated about 15 miles southwest of Brown University’s premises. This operation was executed following a collaborative initiative between local, state, and federal entities after investigators pinpointed the individual’s whereabouts utilizing cellphone geolocation information.

Upon entry, investigators interrogated him about his activities on the day and night of the shooting. He reportedly informed officers that he had stayed at the hotel during that period.
