Anthony Ungerman Boca Raton, Florida Notice of Passing, Reason for Death: Vice President of Security, Assistant Chief Security Officer at Avalara Passed Away Unexpectedly

It is with profound sadness that family, friends, and the Boca Raton community grieve the loss of Anthony Ungerman, who passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the age of 60.

Anthony was born in Dallas, Texas, to Nancy and Jay Ungerman. He grew up in a nurturing and affectionate environment alongside his two older sisters, Carrie and Leslie, and his younger brother, Garin, as well as a close-knit group of aunts, uncles, and cousins who were as close as siblings.

From his childhood, Anthony embodied familial love, joy, and connections, which he carried with him throughout his life. In his mid-20s, his path brought him to Miami, Florida, where he encountered Marisa, his neighbor and partner for life.

Their relationship flourished into a 35-year journey filled with love, companionship, and collective goals. Together, they raised three daughters—Katya, Bianca, and Sabrina—and embraced grandchildren, who brought him immense happiness.

Anthony often regarded his family as his most significant achievement, celebrating their triumphs and valuing everyday experiences, from family dinners to fun times with the cats.

Since childhood, Anthony showed a keen interest in technology. Receiving his first computer as a Bar Mitzvah gift in 1978 ignited a lifelong enthusiasm that evolved into a notable career in software engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

His professional efforts led to many patents and earned him considerable admiration, but Anthony's real legacy lay in his role as a mentor and advocate. He fought for the inclusion of marginalized groups in technology, particularly uplifting women in computing and the LGBTQ+ community, with a strong focus on supporting transgender rights.

His colleagues remember him as exceptionally intelligent yet modest, generous with his time, and always willing to assist others in achieving their goals. Beyond his career, Anthony was recognized for his wit, intellect, and diverse hobbies.

He had a passion for Billy Joel, chess, poker, reading, video games, and, of course, the Dallas Cowboys. Friends and family fondly remember his contagious laughter, thoughtful insights, and his knack for making even simple moments special.

Anthony’s life was rich in love, purpose, and generosity. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marisa; daughters Katya (with her husband), Bianca (with Conor), and Sabrina; grandchildren; parents Nancy and Jay; and siblings Carrie, Leslie, and Garin. His legacy of kindness, wisdom, and steadfast support will be cherished by his family, friends, colleagues, and community.
