8-Year-Old Ethie Bright Killed in Kanawha County Crash; GoFundMe Raises $17K

 KANAWHA COUNTY, WV — An 8-year-old girl, Ethie Bright, tragically lost her life in a two-vehicle crash on Lens Creek Road in Hernshaw, Kanawha County, West Virginia, on December 2, 2025, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. 


The collision occurred around 4:53 p.m., involving a utility truck and an SUV traveling in opposite directions. The truck overturned, and the SUV came to rest in a ditch.

Emergency responders arrived promptly, but Ethie was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have launched an ongoing investigation and are asking witnesses or anyone with surveillance footage to come forward. Sergeant Jeremy Burns of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office noted that while Lens Creek Road does not typically have a high crash rate, incidents that do occur are often severe.


The community has expressed deep shock and grief over the loss of Ethie Bright. In response, a GoFundMe campaign organized by Breanna Campbell has raised over $17,000 as of December 5 to support the family. The funds are intended to cover funeral and burial expenses, memorial service arrangements, and additional family support.

Ethie’s memorial and funeral services were scheduled for December 12 and 13, with attendees asked to wear pink and gold in her honor. The community continues to mourn the tragic loss of this young life and has rallied to support her family during this devastating time.
