3 Children Killed in Jackson County, Kentucky, House Fire on Christmas Eve

A tragic house fire in Jackson County, Kentucky, claimed the lives of three young children just hours before Christmas, leaving a tight-knit community in mourning, authorities confirmed.

The fire broke out shortly before midnight on December 23 at a residence in the 3500 block of Upper Dry Fork Road in McKee, according to Kentucky State Police. When emergency crews arrived, they found the home engulfed in flames. Despite rescue efforts, three children — a 7-month-old infant, a 2-year-old, and a 3-year-old — were pronounced dead at the scene.

A fourth child, age 4, was rescued from the fire with critical injuries. The child was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington before being transferred to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where the child remains under intensive medical care.

The children’s parents, Tyler Monst, 23, and Morgan Johnson, 22, both of McKee, were among three adults rescued from the blaze. They were hospitalized at UK Chandler Hospital with fire-related injuries. A third adult, Florence Johnson, 76, also of McKee, was treated for injuries sustained during the incident.

Troopers from Kentucky State Police Post 7 in Richmond responded to assist the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. The investigation is being led by KSP Detective Anthony Bowling, with assistance from multiple local fire departments, the sheriff’s office, and the Jackson County Coroner’s Office.

Officials have not yet released the cause of the fire, stating that the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are examining the scene to determine how the blaze started and whether any contributing factors were involved.

As news of the tragedy spread, neighbors and community members expressed heartbreak, noting the devastating loss occurring on Christmas Eve. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been organized to support the family as they face medical expenses, funeral costs, and long-term recovery.
