A 20-year-old man from Toms River was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway, leaving the community in shock.
A tragic early-morning crash on the Garden State Parkway has claimed the life of a 20-year-old man from Toms River, leaving a family and community in mourning in Ocean County, New Jersey.
According to New Jersey State Police, the fatal accident occurred around 6 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, on the northbound Garden State Parkway in Lacey Township, near mile marker 73, just south of Exit 74 by County Route 614.
Authorities said Brian Fort, 20, was driving an Infiniti passenger vehicle northbound when the car veered off the roadway to the right, traveled down an embankment, struck several trees, and overturned. The violent crash resulted in Fort being pronounced dead at the scene.
A 22-year-old passenger, later identified as Errol Jeffrey, was also ejected during the crash and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been publicly updated.
State police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional vehicles were involved, and authorities have not yet released information regarding speed, road conditions, or possible contributing factors.
In the wake of the devastating loss, a GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to support the Fort family with funeral and memorial expenses. The fundraiser was organized by Cecilia Fort, who shared a heartfelt tribute to her younger brother.
“On December 21st, 2025, our family experienced an unimaginable tragedy when our younger brother, son, and amazing friend to all, Brian Fort, was taken from us in a fatal car accident,” she wrote. “He was only 20 years young, and his bright spirit, kindness, and laughter touched everyone who knew him.”
The campaign set a goal of $11,000 to help cover the costs of funeral arrangements and to provide Brian with what his family described as “the beautiful farewell he deserves.”
“We would be incredibly grateful for any support you can provide—whether through a donation, sharing this page, or keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers,” Cecilia added.
Friends, loved ones, and community members have shared messages of condolence online, remembering Brian Fort for his warmth, positive energy, and the joy he brought to those around him.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
