12-Year-Old Lydia Love Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle in Roosevelt

ROOSEVELT, UT — Tragedy struck the Roosevelt community on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, when 12-year-old Lydia Love was fatally struck by a vehicle while crossing a marked crosswalk on her scooter.

The accident occurred at approximately 3:55 p.m. at the intersection of 200 East and 200 North, as Lydia crossed with a friend. She was rushed to a local hospital but passed away while awaiting LifeFlight transport, according to the Roosevelt Police Department.

Lydia, a Roosevelt resident, was remembered by her family and community as a bright, caring child who brought joy to everyone around her. Her mother, Sandra Chatwin, shared on social media that Lydia “found so much joy” in helping others, particularly children undergoing cancer treatment. The loss is especially poignant as it comes just days before the third anniversary of the death of Lydia’s older sister, Jaydlen Schurz, who passed away from cancer in 2022.

Police confirmed that the driver, whose identity has not yet been released, ran a red light and struck Lydia while she was in the crosswalk. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, and no charges have been announced at this time.

In the wake of Lydia’s death, the community has rallied around the Love family. A toy drive has been organized to honor both Lydia and Jaydlen, with donations benefiting children receiving cancer treatment at Primary Children’s Hospital. Additionally, a GoFundMe campaign for the family has raised over $25,000 to support them during this devastating time.
