Tragic Kayaking Incident Results in the Deaths of Shane Garcia and Aaron Montemarano in Shinnecock Bay

 A weekend kayaking excursion near Long Island concluded in tragedy after officials confirmed the recovery of 27-year-old Shane Garcia and 25-year-old Aaron Montemarano's bodies from Shinnecock Bay between Sunday, November 2, and Monday, November 3.

Garcia was reported as missing by his girlfriend at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, after he did not return from the trip. Authorities located his work vehicle parked at the end of Shinnecock Avenue in Hampton Bays, raising serious concerns for his well-being. Earlier that day, Garcia had posted a picture with his girlfriend, depicting himself and Montemarano kayaking near the Ponquogue Bridge—an image that now symbolizes their last moments, according to Southampton Town Police.

The search operation for the two individuals included several agencies, such as the New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team, which utilized SONAR technology and diving efforts. Despite the extensive search, it ended in sorrow with both of the men's bodies being recovered.
