Thomas Gomez Car Accident: Remembering Thomas Gomez who Lost His Life in a two-vehicle crash on Sunday, November 23

 The residents of Alamo, Texas are profoundly grieving the untimely death of 20-year-old Thomas Gomez, who tragically lost his life in a catastrophic two-vehicle accident on Sunday, November 23. As reported by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), this deadly incident took place shortly after 11:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 281 near Ben Bolt.

Authorities indicated that Thomas had been driving behind a semi-truck on the crowded highway when he attempted to switch lanes. Simultaneously, a 2023 Kenworth truck tractor, towing a utility trailer and operated by 63-year-old Xavier Gonzalez from Edinburg, was also heading south. As Thomas, who was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Impala, initiated his lane change, the front right side of his car collided with the rear left part of the trailer.

The impact propelled Thomas’s vehicle off the road, where it came to stop out of the flow of traffic. The semi-truck continued moving and eventually pulled over onto the shoulder. Emergency responders arrived within minutes; however, despite their best efforts, Thomas had sustained critical, life-ending injuries. Jim Wells County Justice of the Peace Noe Cadena pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that Thomas was the sole occupant of his car.

As of the most recent updates, DPS has not disclosed information regarding the condition of the truck driver. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with officials continuing to analyze roadway conditions, vehicle placements, eyewitness statements, and any elements that might have contributed to the accident.

Traffic on Highway 281 was reduced to a crawl for an extended duration as officers and emergency personnel worked to secure the scene, gather evidence, and ensure the highway could be safely reopened.
