St. Cloud Police are looking into a heartbreaking case of a murder-suicide within a family after the remains of two siblings were found in their home on Sunday morning. Officers were dispatched to the Mark Mobile Home Community to perform a welfare check following a report from a worried relative who mentioned that the siblings had not been seen for a number of days.
Upon entering the residence, officers discovered the remains of Nereida Ramirez and her brother, Frankie Ortiz, both in their 60s and long-time residents of the area. Investigators reported that Ramirez had sustained multiple stab or puncture wounds and was in an advanced state of decomposition, suggesting she had died several days prior to the police's arrival.
Authorities indicated that Ortiz took his own life by means of strangulation sometime after his sister's passing. Based on the evidence obtained at the location, the investigation is now being viewed as a case of domestic murder-suicide.
While police have not registered any previous reports regarding the siblings, the inquiry is still active as detectives pursue further details about the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The St. Cloud Police Department is encouraging individuals in the community who may be facing domestic violence—or know someone who could be in danger—to seek assistance. Anyone who finds themselves in a harmful or threatening situation can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) for confidential support at any time.
More information is expected to be shared by authorities as the investigation progresses.
