Recalling Thomas Lorenz: A 7th Grade Student from St. Louis Passes Away Following a Brave Fight Against Leukemia
The community of St. Louis is grieving the death of Thomas Lorenz, a 7th grader at SSP, who died after a courageous and relentless struggle against leukemia. Known fondly as "Super Thomas," he was the beloved son of Joe Lorenz and CarolAnne Renick Lorenz, who teaches kindergarten at SSP, as well as the treasured brother of John, Cora, and Lucy. His grandparents, Diana and Rick Sollmann, Joan and Tim Lorenz, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, also held him dear.
Over time, Thomas’s experience resonated with many, and support came from all areas of the community. Neighbors, classmates, and even those who never met him were enchanted by his tale, inspired by the fortitude he displayed and the dignity with which he faced his condition. Thomas’s legacy embodies not surrender, but instead embodies hope, resolve, and affection, illustrating to all the authentic essence of resilience.
Although his time on earth was sadly brief, the influence of Thomas will remain for many years. He imparted significant lessons to everyone who crossed his path regarding the strength found in communities, the spirit of persistence, and the necessity of never losing hope. His legacy will endure in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
The Lorenz family has been embraced by a wave of affection and support, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to them during this period of mourning. We wish for their comfort and healing, and may Thomas’s spirit find peace, forever cherished as Super Thomas—a beacon of love and bravery that will never fade from memory.
