Previous Marathon Inhabitant Receives 13-Year Sentence for Sexual Assault, Incest, and Child Endangerment

Kia Lynn Cadogan, previously a resident of Marathon, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after entering a no contest plea to allegations of sexual battery, incest, and child negligence. The 37-year-old female was found guilty by Circuit Judge Mark Jones and faces an additional eight years of probation, which includes one year under sex offender supervision. As part of her sentence, Cadogan is mandated to register as a sex predator for life.

Beyond the 13-year prison term for sexual battery, Cadogan received five concurrent years for both incest and child neglect. The case, pursued by the State Attorney’s Office, has been characterized as one of the most disturbing in the system's history, with the extent of abuse and betrayal described as "nearly inconceivable."

SUPPORT THE FAMILY - GOD BLESS YOU

State Attorney Dennis Ward commented about the case, noting, “This is one of the most appalling cases we’ve handled. The depth of betrayal and abuse is almost unfathomable. Thanks to the relentless efforts of our legal team—especially Assistant State Attorney Colleen Dunne—and our committed law enforcement partners, Kia Cadogan is finally being held accountable. Accountability has no expiration date. Our work is not over.”

The allegations against Cadogan originate from a multi-jurisdictional investigation into extended sexual abuse and exploitation occurring while she and her family resided on a sailboat in Marathon. The inquiry unveiled that Cadogan was involved in the sexual abuse of a minor and neglected to shield multiple children from continuous danger. Authorities also identified a second victim, a teenager, affected by the actions of the Cadogans during the investigation.

Cadogan's spouse, Eric Edward Cadogan, has already been found guilty in federal court for producing and distributing material related to child sexual abuse. In 2024, he received a sentencing of 20 years in federal prison, followed by supervised release for life. The evidence collected in both state and federal inquiries indicates a close connection between Eric Cadogan’s illegal activities and those of his wife.

The investigation was conducted in conjunction with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, and law enforcement entities in Wisconsin, where the Cadogans relocated later. Assistant State Attorney Colleen Dunne managed the case, presenting substantial forensic interviews, digital proof, and witness testimonies to demonstrate both Kia Cadogan’s direct participation in the abuse and her failure to act in protecting the victims.

While Eric Cadogan serves his sentence in federal prison, the Monroe County State Attorney’s Office has lodged additional state charges against him, which are still pending. These include sexual battery, lewd and lascivious conduct, child neglect, child cruelty, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The sentencing of Kia Lynn Cadogan is viewed as an important action in ensuring accountability for her involvement in the abuse and neglect of at-risk children. It also represents a significant advancement in the pursuit of justice for the victims and efforts to avert additional harm within the community.
