Oak Park Family Heartbreak: Anthony Brooks Killed in Domestic Conflict

A peaceful Sunday afternoon in Oak Park became tragic when Anthony Brooks, aged 26, was shot fatally by his younger brother during a family dispute at their home.

As reported by the Oak Park Police Department, authorities arrived at a house on the 400 block of South Ridgeland Avenue at approximately 1:47 p.m. after getting calls about a shooting incident involving siblings. Upon arrival, officers discovered Brooks with a gunshot wound to his head. Despite attempts to save him, he was declared dead at the location.

Investigators indicated that the incident was a result of a volatile argument between Anthony and his 23-year-old sibling, both of whom resided in the house. A family member reportedly advised the younger brother to unload his weapon and leave it behind when exiting the home, but shortly afterward, the deadly shot was discharged.

An employee from a nearby business recounted to reporters that he witnessed several police cars and an officer taking a long gun from a patrol vehicle, even though he did not hear the sound of the gunfire. The vicinity was cordoned off with crime scene tape for more than six hours as detectives examined the area.

The individual suspected of the crime was apprehended without any conflict and was taken to the Oak Park Police Department for interrogation. Authorities affirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, with detectives speaking to witnesses and gathering evidence.

In an official note, the Village of Oak Park extended their sympathies to the Brooks family and reassured the public that this incident was a solitary domestic occurrence that did not pose a continuous risk to the community.
