La Salle Academy Grieves the Passing of Roberto DiMascio, Cherished Educator and Leader of the Italian Club

 The La Salle Academy community in Providence, Rhode Island, is mourning the unexpected and premature loss of Mr. Roberto DiMascio, a committed World Languages instructor and leader of the Italian Club. His passing has created a significant emptiness in the hearts of students, faculty, and alumni who view him as far more than just an educator—he was a source of warmth, humor, and steadfast positivity.

For 14 years, Roberto was a cornerstone of La Salle, fully embodying the school's principles of faith, service, and community. His classroom exuded an atmosphere filled with curiosity, laughter, and a rich understanding of cultural diversity. Renowned for his enthusiasm for the Italian language and culture, Roberto not only guided students towards fluency but also inspired in them a profound appreciation for Italy’s artistic heritage, history, and customs.

In 2024, Roberto’s remarkable contributions earned him the esteemed Donald J. Kavanagh, AFSC Heart and Soul Award. This accolade is granted to individuals who reflect the essential Lasallian values of faith, zeal, and community—qualities that Roberto embodied throughout his life and work. Former students and colleagues remember him as a spirited, passionate, and genuinely caring person, whose influence left a lasting impression on all those he met.

In addition to teaching language, Roberto placed emphasis on nurturing the heart and soul. He was famous for his interactive discussions and encouragement, continuously striving to transform learning into a personal and enriching journey. As leader of the Italian Club, Roberto motivated students to celebrate their cultural roots through various events, language immersion trips, and community service initiatives. His dedication to fostering global citizenship and connection played a crucial role in his students’ growth, both in their studies and personal lives.

Those who were closest to him recount Roberto’s generosity, modesty, and unwavering faith.
