According to Jaylah’s grandmother, Genette Anderson, the family had enjoyed a joyous and memorable Thanksgiving earlier that same day. As the evening came to a close, Jaylah’s mother offered to give a neighbor a brief ride home along Fairview Road in Covington.

While Jaylah’s mother was reversing out of their driveway, another vehicle collided with theirs on the passenger side where Jaylah was seated. The Georgia State Patrol reported that Jaylah passed away at the location of the accident, along with her unborn child.

Jaylah’s mother was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital and is currently on life support. The family is uncertain about her chances of survival.

“Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers,” Anderson expressed, conveying the profound sorrow that has rendered them in shock.

Friends and family remember Jaylah as someone who left a lasting impression. Her godmother, Nekeshia Johnson, noted how just her smile alone could light up an entire room.

“She was very kind, loving, and always had a smile. Her smile could easily make anyone smile back,” Johnson reflected.

Family members reminisced about how Jaylah maintained that joyful attitude since she was young.

“We will undoubtedly miss that infectious smile,” a relative remarked. “She smiled so much as a child. She even received the best smile award in daycare. That girl was always smiling.”

As they await news regarding Jaylah’s mother, the family is leaning on prayer and the kindness of their community to help them navigate the upcoming days.

“We will miss Jaylah dearly,” they remarked.

The Georgia State Patrol continues to look into the incident. The name of the other driver involved has not been disclosed, and authorities anticipate filing charges once the investigation concludes.
