The Henderson community is mourning a profound loss as 11-year-old Brandon Dominguez-Chavarria was sorrowfully killed during a road-rage incident on the 215 Beltway on Friday morning. What should have simply been a routine trip to school turned into a devastating experience that altered a family forever and deeply unsettled the city.
Brandon was in the back seat of his stepfather’s car when, as per police reports, a confrontation between two drivers escalated into an altercation. Investigators claim both vehicles were trying to merge onto the 215 from U.S. 95/I-11 when the drivers exchanged angry remarks. Amidst this altercation, the suspect reportedly brandished a gun and fired a single round into Brandon’s vehicle, hitting the young boy who was quietly seated behind his stepfather, on his way to begin a new day at school.
Despite urgent attempts to intervene by colliding with the suspect’s vehicle and the swift arrival of first responders, Brandon’s injuries proved to be too critical. He sadly passed away shortly after, leaving behind a family engulfed in sorrow and a community devastated by the irrationality of the event.
His family characterizes Brandon as “the light of our family,” a boy known for his contagious smile, playful character, and a heart full of love that illuminated every space he entered. The suspect, named 22-year-old Tyler Matthew Johns, has been taken into custody and is facing charges that include open murder while using a deadly weapon.
