Grassy Narrows Community Mourns Mekhi Pelly Scott Amid Ongoing Investigation

 The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have acknowledged the passing of 21-year-old Mekhi Pelly Scott, who was part of Grassy Narrows First Nation and had been reported missing in Kenora towards the end of October. Last seen between October 10 and 12, he was officially declared missing on October 26. Authorities stated that initially, the possibility of foul play could not be dismissed.


Although Mekhi’s body has not yet been found, a number of organizations—including the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team, Treaty Three Police Service, Kenora Makwa Patrol, alongside local volunteers—are persistently engaged in the search efforts. Investigators are calling on anyone with information that may help the investigation to reach out to the Kenora OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or to provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

In relation to this investigation, 24-year-old Terry Cherry, a resident of Kenora, has been taken into custody and charged with the crime of committing an indignity to a dead body. Court actions are currently in process.

The loss of Mekhi Pelly Scott is profoundly impacting his family, friends, and the Grassy Narrows community. Members of the community and authorities have come together to offer support to his grieving family during this sorrowful period.
