Georgia Community Grieves the Loss of Benjamin “Ben” Townsend Mosteller, Cherished Educator and Guide
ATLANTA, GA — The Westminster Schools and the wider community of Georgia are grieving the passing of Benjamin “Ben” Townsend Mosteller, a dedicated teacher, spouse, and father whose kindness and faith influenced all who knew him. Ben left this world on October 29, 2025, at the age of 39, after bravely facing brain cancer.
Having grown up in northwest Georgia, with family roots in Dalton and Chatsworth, Ben’s existence was characterized by service, faith, and love—principles that shaped his connections, teaching methods, and engagement with the community.
As a well-respected history educator and coach at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta, Ben infused history with such passion that it left a lasting mark on countless students over the years. His teaching combined curiosity with compassion, motivating young learners to perceive history not just as a record of the past but as a tool for forging a brighter future.
Ben held a master’s degree in history from the College of Charleston, and his intellectual zeal was complemented by a profound humility and appreciation for life. His classroom was noted for its vibrant atmosphere, humor, and inclusive environment—a true reflection of his conviction that education should develop both intellect and emotional growth.
Beyond the confines of the school, Ben’s generosity extended well beyond the campus. He was an active community volunteer and a reliable friend—always present, attentive without judgment, and a source of quiet support during challenging times.
At home, Ben discovered his deepest joy with his spouse, Leslie, and their two daughters, Ada and Mae. His family was his foundation—a realm of joy, storytelling, and unwavering faith. Those who were close to him described a person whose life was filled with love, appreciation, and grace, even in difficult circumstances.
A memorial service celebrating Ben Mosteller's life is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Trinity Anglican Church in Atlanta, with arrangements handled by Peeples Funeral Home & Crematory of Chatsworth.
In honor of Ben’s lifelong commitment to education and family, the Mosteller family requests donations be made to a scholarship fund in his memory at The Westminster Schools or towards Ada and Mae’s college savings plan, continuing his legacy of learning and hope for the future.
