Critical Incident Investigation Initiated Following Death of Teen Biker During Police Chase in Sydney

19-Year-Old Biker George Manos Loses Life

An investigation into a critical incident has been launched after a 19-year-old motorcyclist lost his life during a police chase late on Monday night in Sydney’s inner south.

According to NSW Police, the event started just before midnight when officers attempted to pull over a motorcycle heading north on Southern Cross Drive in Zetland. The motorcyclist reportedly did not stop, leading the officers to begin a pursuit.

Shortly thereafter, the motorcycle crashed into the back of a van in front of it. Police quickly administered first aid until paramedics arrived; however, the rider, identified as George Manos, 19, was declared dead at the scene.

A crime scene has been set up, and detectives from the Critical Incident Investigation Team are now looking into the details of the pursuit, the collision, and the conduct of the involved officers. In line with standard protocols, an independent review will be carried out on the investigation.

Officials have not reported any injuries to the occupants of the van.

Authorities are calling on anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to step forward as the inquiry proceeds.
