The Greensboro community is grieving the tragic death of 47-year-old Derrick Lamont Leach, who was shot and killed at his residence on Boylston Road on Sunday, November 23, 2025. Deputies from the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office were summoned to the home around 7:49 a.m. following a report of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Derrick had died from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. His family has been informed, and those close to him are now finding it difficult to deal with the unexpected and sorrowful news.
Investigators swiftly identified the alleged shooter as 27-year-old Jose Cristian Bravo-Martinez, who fled the location using a stolen vehicle just after the shooting took place. Law enforcement initiated an urgent search, and by 10:16 a.m., patrol deputies tracked down the stolen vehicle and tried to pull it over. A short chase ensued, but deputies eventually managed to apprehend Martinez safely. Although his arrest provided a slight feeling of relief amid a time filled with shock and sorrow, it did little to alleviate the profound grief experienced by Derrick’s family and the community.
Martinez now faces numerous serious accusations, including First Degree Murder as a felony, possession of a stolen vehicle as a felony, two counts of felony robbery involving a deadly weapon, felony fleeing to evade arrest, and various misdemeanor charges. He is currently held without bail at the Guilford County Detention Center while investigators continue to collect evidence and reconstruct the circumstances that led to the fatal altercation. Authorities have yet to disclose additional information regarding the occurrences that took place inside the house.
As the process of justice unfolds, those who knew and cherished Derrick are redirecting their efforts toward celebrating his life beyond the sorrowful headlines. Family members express that his absence is a wound that will require a long time to mend, one that has created a void in their lives that will never be filled. They are committed to commemorating his life with the love, dignity, and respect he deserved while he was alive.
