Dallas Remembers Young Woman Who Was Hit and Pulled by an SUV

DALLAS — The community of Dallas is grieving the tragic death of 23-year-old Aya Knox, who tragically passed away in the early hours of Saturday after being hit and dragged by an SUV in Downtown Dallas. This incident took place at approximately 4:40 a.m. on the 1500 block of Elm Street, where police discovered Knox trapped beneath the vehicle.

Emergency teams from Dallas Fire-Rescue swiftly transported her to a local hospital, but unfortunately, they were unable to save her, and she died from her injuries. Officials have stated that the driver remained present at the scene and is working with the ongoing inquiry. A bystander who filmed a video after the SUV halted reported seeing Knox stumble into the road prior to the accident, leaving a visible blood trail along the stretch where she was dragged—a chilling reminder of the event.

Her family and friends affectionately called her the “Queen of Dallas,” highlighting the happiness, love, and warmth she brought to all those in her life. Knox had recently marked her birthday and spent the evening prior to the accident with friends. She was employed at a local medical clinic and aspired to be a nurse, a dream tragically cut short by this unexpected event.

Nakia Clay, her aunt, characterized the loss as “traumatic” and “surreal,” noting that the family is still having difficulty coming to terms with what occurred. In South Dallas, loved ones and community members came together for a vigil to celebrate her life, holding candles and photographs as they reminisced about her kindness, laughter, and immense love for her family.

“Family was everything to Aya,” Clay stated. “It was crucial for us to show the world the remarkable young woman she was and how profoundly she was cherished by all of us.”

The investigation by the Dallas Police Department into the incident is ongoing. The community is left in sorrow over the loss of a vibrant and caring individual whose life ended much too early, remembering Aya Knox for her spirit, aspirations, and the love she generously shared with everyone she encountered.

This is an ongoing investigation.
