Community Grieves the Unexpected Passing of Cherished School Bus Operator and Instructor, Mark Naylor
The Kitchener-Waterloo community is grieving the unexpected loss of Mark Naylor, a devoted driver of school buses and trainer whose dedication to safety and kindness affected many lives. Naylor died suddenly on November 2, 2025, leaving family members, friends, and coworkers who consider his departure to be both surprising and profoundly sorrowful.
Mark had joined the Elliott Coach Lines staff at the Breslau, Ontario branch in March 2025, yet his experience as a school bus driver went back over ten years. Recognized for his professionalism and friendliness, he was also a certified driver trainer, tasked with guiding new drivers and instilling in them the same values of safety and compassion that characterized his own service.
“Mark was far more than just a bus driver—he was an educator, a guardian, and a trustworthy figure for many children who depended on him daily,” an Elliott Coach Lines representative stated. “His existence made a significant impact.”
Naylor’s influence reached far beyond the routes he traveled. Throughout his extensive career in training and mentorship, he played a crucial role in ensuring numerous drivers maintained the highest standards of care, thereby indirectly influencing the daily rides of thousands of students in the area.
Mark is survived by his father Ralph, who resided with him in Kitchener; his son Damian, who is now attending school in Toronto; and his daughters Chloe and Olivia, who live in the same apartment building as their family.
In light of his passing, coworkers and community members have initiated a fundraising effort to assist Mark’s family during this challenging period. The initiative aims to offer both financial and emotional support to a family that has contributed significantly to the community over the years.
Those who were acquainted with Mark recall him as an individual of honesty, kindness, and steadfast commitment—someone who treated every child on his bus with the same care as if they were his own.
“Mark deeply cared for people,” a coworker reflected. “He showed us that safety extends beyond regulations—it’s about nurturing every individual entrusted to your care.”
Information regarding memorial services and the ongoing support initiative will be shared in the forthcoming days.
