Community Grieves the Unexpected Loss of 7-Year-Old Thomas Michael Pratt, Whose Last Gesture Gave Life to Others

 The Essex community is mourning the tragic loss of Thomas Michael Pratt, a vibrant and cheerful 7-year-old whose unexpected death on October 30, 2025, has left family, friends, and neighbors heartbroken.

Described by those close to him as “the kindest, most loving, and happiest little boy,” Thomas was known for his endless curiosity and contagious laughter. With an imaginative spirit, he aspired to be a magician, was a dedicated player on his t-ball, basketball, and soccer teams, and served as a gentle role model for his younger cousins.

He cherished story time and reading with his mother, frequently requesting “two books before bed,” and relished peaceful moments spent watching movies while snuggled with his family and cats, proudly identifying as a “cat guy.” Thomas also enjoyed golfing alongside his dad and uncles, and he spent countless delightful hours with his grandparents—constructing Lego sets at Grandma and Grandpa Pratt’s home or searching the beach for fossils and lake glass with Grandy and Papa.

“Thomas had an insatiable curiosity and found joy in every moment,” his family expressed. “His life was filled with joy, laughter, and love.”

Although the reason for his sudden passing remains unknown, the family finds solace in the fact that Thomas’s legacy lives on through a remarkable act of generosity. In his last moments, Thomas became an organ donor, and already, his heart, liver, and kidneys have impacted the lives of at least four individuals.

“Even during this tragedy, Thomas managed to share his light,” remarked his great-aunt and great-uncle, Henry and Katrina Antonovich. “He offered the most precious gift—the gift of life.”

A memorial service remembering Thomas will take place at Holy Family in Essex on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of his life next door until 7:00 p.m. Everyone who knew Thomas or wishes to pay tribute to him is invited to come.

While the Pratt family and the broader community grieve this profound loss, they simultaneously celebrate the remarkable kindness and spirit of a young boy whose heart continues to live on—in more ways than one.
